I put two coats of paint on the sky and let it dry. Then started at the top of the canvas in the background and worked my way down and into the forground.
When making glazes you can layer light or dark, warm or cool , to adjust the colors and values at each step. The trick to avoid muddy overworked paint isn’t working faster, it’s stopping to let the paint dry overnight. That also gives you time to stand back and decide what you want to correct, and what your next step will be.
